Bellafill FAQ
Bellafill is a safe and effective dermal filler that stimulates your skin’s natural collagen production for long-term results. Unlike Hyaluronic Acid (HA) dermal fillers, which last 6-24 months depending on the product, Bellafill works in two ways. First, the collagen gel injections placed under the skin immediately fill the wrinkle and create a smoother, plumped appearance. Over time your body absorbs the collagen gel, leaving behind tiny polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres that stimulate your skin cells to make collagen for up to five years. This collagen foundation adds soft, smooth volume for long-lasting results.
Bellafill is an exceptional product for smoothing lines in the nasolabial folds, fine lines wrinkles and adding volume to cheeks, temples, and marionette lines. It is also excellent for reducing the appearance of acne scars and for use in non-surgical rhinoplasty.
Bellafill lasts so much longer than traditional fillers because it contains a different active ingredient. Most fillers are made with Hyaluronic Acid (HA). Bellafill is made of a mixture of bovine collagen and polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. Whereas HA acts as a facial-volume substitute, PMMA works to stimulate your body’s own collagen production, leading to the creation of more volume. Furthermore, HA typically lasts in the face for 6-18 months (depending upon the HA product), and PMMA continues to stimulate collagen long after the HA would have dissipated.
Every dermal filler appointment begins with a consultation with one of our skilled nurses to discuss your goals and concerns. We will also assess your medical history during this consultation to help choose the appropriate treatment and product. Before beginning any injections or other treatments, we will take before and after pictures to track your progress towards achieving your goals. Depending on the number of areas to be treated, you will be out the door and able to resume normal activities within 60 minutes, with just a few instructions for aftercare.
Most patients find dermal filler injections quite tolerable, but we are happy to offer additional measures to ensure you are comfortable during your Bellafill treatment. You can expect topical icing and injected lidocaine numbing to the treatment area. In addition to this, some of our patients choose to utilize our Nitrous Oxide system (laughing gas). These measures result in the most comfortable patient experience possible.
The main side effects of any derma filler injectable treatment are bruising, redness, swelling, and mild discomfort.
Aftercare for Bellafill is minimal. However, following a few simple suggestions can help minimize your downtime and discomfort. We recommend you refrain from using makeup or skincare products on the day of treatment. You should not engage in heavy exercise for 24 hours. Sleeping with your head slightly elevated will also decrease swelling.
There are also some things to avoid before your treatment to minimize discomfort and bruising. This includes stopping any food, supplement, or medication that is not doctor ordered that thins your blood, including ibuprofen, aspirin, fish oil, flaxseed, and alcohol. You may use arnica supplements before the treatment and during the recovery phase to minimize bruising and swelling.
